The election enigma
Irrespective of the outcome of the US presidential elections, it has become clear that a large section of the media and pollsters had misjudged the popularity of Mr. Trump. A combative press, animosity of late-night hosts and Hollywood could not break his constituents. The president's appeal cuts across conflicting social groups, which, prima facie, defies logic. BLM protests, questionable tactics with regard to COVID-19 have simply been swept away by frenzied adoration. Mr. Biden might still pull through, but the Trump phenomenon, just like the Modi phenomenon, and the Johnson phenomenon, will continue to perplex their detractors and commentators alike.
